Cevdet Erek

Cevdet Erek (* 1974 in Istanbul ) is a Turkish conceptual artist and musician .

life and work

Cevdet Erek studied architecture at the Mimar Sinan Üniversitesi from 1992 to 1999 . He worked as an architect, came with the 1989 founded Turkish music group Necropsi on, became in 2003 the Master of the (MIAM), İstanbul Technical University , received his doctorate there and teach there. Between 2005 and 2006 he studied at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam. In 2012 Erek received the Nam June Paik Award .

“Erek's installation Raum der Rhythmen (2012) for dOCUMENTA (13) continues two lines that run through his work: location-specificity and the translation of time concepts into physical experience. Different kinds of sound systems amplify different compositions, which Erek describes as acoustic timelines ; "

In 2015 he showed Bir Ritim Mekanı - Otopark / A Room of Rhythms - Otopark at the 14th Istanbul Biennale . His installation ÇIN was presented in the Turkish pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale (2017). In 2017 Erek published the book SSS How to imitate the sound of the shore with two hands and a carpet and his album Davul .
