Château Saint-Aubin

The Château Saint-Aubin is a Bordeaux winery in the AOC Médoc area . It is located in the municipality of Jau-Dignac-et-Loirac about 50 kilometers northwest of Bordeaux in the Gironde department . It has belonged to the Saint-Aubin family since the 19th century.

The château has one of the best terroirs in the Médoc. The soil consists of a homogeneous layer of fine sandy pebbles, is relatively calcareous and has excellent water drainage.

The vineyard area is 14 hectares; 30 percent of it is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon , 30 percent with Merlot , 22 percent with Cabernet Franc and 17 percent with Petit Verdot . The winery produces around 100,000 bottles of wine in normal years. As in general with AOC-Médoc wines, the focus is on bouquet and fruit. The wine is generally seen as lively and powerful, but compared to other Médoc wines, it needs a long cellar maturation before its potential unfolds.

The Château Saint-Aubin was classified as Cru Bourgeois in the 2003 classification, and has been a member of the Association of Crus Bourgeois ( Alliance des Crus Bourgeois du Médoc ) since 2004 .
