The Chýnovská jeskyně ( Chejnower Cave ) is a karst cave in Okres Tábor in the Czech Republic . It is located in the Chýnovský kras ( Chejnower Karst ) northeast of the town of Chýnov between the villages of Velmovice and Dolní Hořice in the Pacova hora hill. The Chejnow Cave was the first open show cave in Bohemia .

history

The Chýnov lime kiln can be traced back to the 15th century . Limestone quarries have been in operation on the west side of Pacova hora since 1747 , with others to the east on Kladrubská hora.

In 1863, the stone crusher Vojtěch Rytíř came across a chasm in Pacova hora into which his hammer had fallen. The cave was made accessible to the public via a stone staircase and opened to visitors in 1868.

The Chýnovská jeskyně has a height of 42 m and is accessible over a length of 220 m. It is surrounded by various light layers of limestone in white, yellowish and brownish tones as well as dark amphibolite , which form eyes in the walls.
