Choshu

Chōshū stands for a number of terms in the Japanese language, including:

  • (usually) another name for Nagato Province , part of what is now Yamaguchi Prefecture, using the Kanji 長 州
  • the Chōshū (Han) , the fief that corresponded to the extent of the province
  • the Mōri clan, the daimyō of the Chōshū fiefdom, is often incorrectly referred to as the Chōshū clan
  • (rarely) combined name of Nagato Province and Suō Province (長 周)
  • (rarely) another name for the province of Owari (張 州)
  • a long sleeve on a kimono (長袖), derived from the name for someone who wears long sleeves on a kimono, such as a maiko
