history

The construction of the well was proposed on July 22nd, 1850 by the city councilor Augusto Frederico Ferreira and built in 1851 as part of an overall system on the city wall. The fountains were all connected to the Aqueduto das Águas Livres . The fountain was fed from the Galeria de Santana through a pipe that emerged in São Sebastião da Pedreira . It is crowned with the coat of arms of the city of Lisbon and bears the inscription "A Câmara Municipal de Lisboa em 1851". A panel of azulejos shows a panorama of the Entrecampos district.
