Chainsaw Records

Chainsaw Records is a record label from Portland , Oregon, founded in 1991 by Donna Dresch . The label is on feminist and queer specialized bands and, together with labels like Mr. Lady Records and Candy Ass Records as the center of Queercore movement.

Label history

Dresch began publishing the queer magazine Chainsaw in the late 1980s . In 1991 she decided to add a record label to the magazine and eventually replace it. From 1994 regular albums and singles were released, initially by The Fakes (a project by Bikini Kill members, among others ), The Need and Nation of Ulysses . Later, more commercially successful bands such as Sleater-Kinney and Tracy + the Plastics were added.
