Chaise (carriage)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Frisian chaise

A chaise (spoken: [ʃɛːz] "schääs") is a lightly built, two-seater carriage with a movable half-hood. Examples of this are the berline (Berlin chaise) and the half chaise, an open carriage without doors, side and front walls.

The word chaise comes from French and actually means “chair”. It came into German at the end of the 17th century, meaning “half-coach”.
