Champion Records was an American record label . Champion was a sub-label of Gennett Records . The headquarters were in Richmond , Indiana .

history

The first champion records appeared in September 1925. The label's repertoire was limited to recordings by Gennett artists - the records were often released under pseudonyms, as they had previously been released under the Gennett label. Initially, the company produced exclusively for the Kresge chain stores, but later switched to selling Champion records elsewhere as well.

Although Gennett largely withdrew from the business around 1930, Champion remained active as Gennett's sub-label until 1934. a. with footage of Mae Glover . In 1934, Gennett and Champion were sold to Decca Records by the Starr Piano Company , Gennett's parent company . They in turn secured the rights to the Champion catalog and reactivated the label one last time in mid-1935. Champion remained in the business under Decca for about a year and was then abandoned.
