Synonym : English iris atrophy with corneal edema and glaucoma

The name refers to the author of the first description from 1956 by the American ophthalmologist Paul A. Chandler.

distribution

The frequency and cause are unknown. It is the most common form of iridocorneal endothelial syndrome.

Clinical manifestations

Clinical criteria are:

  • especially in female adolescents
  • unilateral corneal edema with corneal endothelial dystrophy
  • Iris atrophy with only a small number of iris anomalies
  • Glaucoma on the affected side only

Differential diagnosis

The other forms of the iridocorneal endothelial syndrome must be distinguished.

In Cogan-Reese syndrome, secondary glaucoma is usually weaker, but corneal edema is usually more pronounced.
