Changüi

Changüí is a musical genre that emerged in eastern Cuba around 1860 . It was played at festivals ( cumbanchas ) by farmers in the mountains and has its origins in the music of the Bantus , the Afro-French inhabitants of Haiti and Spanish influences from the Canary Islands .

The following instruments are used: tres (guitar), marimbula (lamellophone), maracas , güiro (or guayo) and bongos . A singer is usually accompanied by a choir of two or three singers.
