Chaotic Dischord

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chaotic Dischord (initially also Chaotik Discord ) was the name of a music project that was started as a joke in the early 1980s , but is still known today as a representative of the brutal punk rock sound of the 1980s. Chaotic Dischord took the mutilation of the song structure to extremes, resulting in almost inaudible pieces of music. The texts, if at all understandable, outdid each other in condemnation of all values and sometimes sing about violence, animal cruelty, rape and - very often - drug use and alcohol abuse.

Emergence

The "group" became known after a demo cassette was leaked to the owner of the Riot City record label , Simon Edwards, when he was planning the first full-length release, which would be a compilation for which he was looking for bands. The tape, which was labeled "Chaotik Discord", actually came from musicians and roadies of the famous punk band Vice Squad , who had co-founded Riot City in 1980 . The demo material was an atonal piece with extremely distorted guitar staccato and vocals roaring with vulgar nonsense. Edwards didn't see through the joke, however, and included the track "Glue Accident" in his release, signed the group and financed their first releases, the singles "Fuck the World" (# 7 on the UK independent charts) and "Never Trust a Friend ". It was only in 1983 that he found out about the identity of the musicians and the prank they had played on him.

First albums (1983–1984)

After the two successful singles, Chaotic Dischord continued their campaign against the rules of music on the first album "Fuck Religion, Fuck Politics, Fuck the Lot of You" (1983) and sold around 10,000 copies. The mini-LP "Don't Throw It All Away" featured Captain Sensible from The Damned and Knox from The Vibrators as guest musicians . In 1984 the album "Live in New York" was finally released, which, contrary to the claim of the title, was of course not a live album, but studio material that had been accompanied by sound recordings of a raging crowd. It was also the label's last record release, and Riot City had to close. In the same year the LP "Fuck Off You Cunt", which is also titled with the name of the band, was released on the Syndicate label . The voice of Beki Bondage from Vice Squad may be heard on the record .

Later publications (1985–1988)

The appearance of the best of compilation "Now That's What I Call a Fucking Racket" on Not Very Nice Records showed that there was still interest in Chaotic Dischord, who actually began to work as a band in the conventional sense and in 1986 the long player "Goat Fucking Virgin Killers from Hell ", which was less incoherent and insane than previous works, had been better produced and recorded and actually contained understandable texts. The level of coarseness and tastelessness remained at least at the usual level. In 1988 "Very Fuckin 'Bad" was released as a parody of Michael Jackson's bestseller Bad at the time . After that, no more new releases appeared.

Aftermath

Despite the anarchic sound, which often leads to a complete breakdown of the song structure, Chaotic Dischord are still one of the well-known groups from the era of tough UK punk of the 1980s. Her old records are still being reprinted today.
