The Vibrators (German: Die Vibratoren ) is a band from London , which was founded in 1976 and is considered one of the first punk bands .

Band history

Guitarist Knox at the Augustibuller Festival 2007

Guitarist Ian Knox Carnochan , bassist Pat Collier, guitarist John Ellis and drummer Eddie Edwards founded The Vibrators. The band had their first public appearance as the opening act for The Stranglers in February 1976 at Honsey Art College in London. Soon afterwards they were playing in the opening act for the Sex Pistols at 100 Club . The first single We Vibrate was released in November 1976. In the spring of 1977 they accompanied Iggy Pop on his England tour, they got a contract with Epic Records and brought out the single Baby Baby . This was followed by the album Pure Mania , which made it into the top 50 of the English charts. With the single Automatic Lover , the band got a television appearance on the show Top of the Pops . The second long-playing record V2 reached number 33 in the UK charts. The Troops of Tomorrow contained on it achieved even greater fame with a cover by the band The Exploited .

After that there was a constant change of band members and a number of singles appeared, including Gimme Some Lovin ' and Disco in Mosco . The band broke up for a short time until 1982 when the combination Knox, Eddie, Pat Collier and John Ellis found each other again. It then released the single and album of the same name, Guilty . The long-playing record Alaska 127, which came out in 1984, was named after Pat Collier's studio. The album Fifth Amendment was released in 1985. After that Pat Collier and John Ellis left the band, and there was again a constant change in the guitarist. From 1996 to 1999 the band with the line-up Knox, Eddie “The Drummer” Edwards and Nick Peckham on bass gave over a hundred concerts annually in the USA and Canada and released a handful of albums. Pete has been the bassist in the trio since 2003, coming from the Finnish band No Direction , and they still go on tour today. In their long career, the Vibrators have been touring with Iggy Pop, Ian Hunter , The Flaming Groovies , The Misfits and Die Toten Hosen and bands such as The Exploited , UK Subs , GBH , REM and Die Toten Hosen covered their songs. The band Stiff Little Fingers named themselves after one of their songs from the album Pure Mania .
