Charles Amirkhanian

Charles Amirkhanian (born January 19, 1945 in Fresno , California ) is an American radio producer, composer , sound poet and representative of electroacoustic music .

life and work

Amirkhanian graduated from California State University , Fresno and received his Masters from San Francisco State University . From 1969 to 1992 he was musical director at KPFA / Berkeley. From 1983 to 1992 he directed the Speaking of Music series at the Exploratorium in San Francisco and in 1988 he co-founded the Composer-to-Composer Festival at the Telluride Institute in Colorado with John Lifton . From 1993 to 1997 Amirkhanian was on the board of the Djerassi Resident Artists Program in Woodside, California and since 1993 the artistic director of the Other Minds Foundation .

Metropolis San Francisco (57 min), produced by WDR , was played at documenta 8 in Kassel in 1987 . Other well-known works are Portrait of Samuel Beckett (1987) and Loudspeakers. For Morton (1990).

Walking Tune and Mental Radio are Amirkhanian CDs. He uses language and voice as sound and rhythm.
