Charles Chilton Moore
Charles Chilton Moore (born December 20, 1837 in Quaker Acre , Lexington , Kentucky , † February 7, 1906 there ) was an American civil rights activist and editor. As the voice of atheism , he gained notoriety for his work against the supremacy of religion.
Life
Moore was a grandson of the religious reformer Barton W. Stone and was initially a preacher in his tradition. During this activity, through his deep knowledge of Christianity, he recognized its insurmountable contradictions. In 1884 he founded the magazine Blue Grass Blade , which he then published. Moore paid for his courage to oppose religion and the Bible with prison terms. He campaigned for free speech and women's rights.
