Charles Otto Blagden

Charles Otto Blagden (born 1864 ; died 1949 ) was an English orientalist and linguist who specialized in the languages Malay , Mon and Pyu .

Biography and work

Blagden was employed by the Civil Service of the Straits Settlements from 1888 to 1897 and became a Malaysian lecturer at the University of London in 1910 and at the School of Oriental Studies in 1917 . He has been in the works Pagan Races of the Malay Peninsula ( "The pagan races of the Malay Peninsula ") by Walter William Skeat (1866-1953) (2 volumes, 1906) adopted the linguistic part with a thoughtful presentation of complex linguistic relations. He also made extensive studies of Burmese written material for Epigraphia Birmanica , which yielded new results and made it possible to trace the history of Burma and the Mon language back further, which led to the discovery of the previously unknown Tibetan Burman language Pyu .
