The Emma is a barge built in 1928 in Pölitz near Stettin . These barges were used in the inland voyage and in the coastal voyage of the Baltic Sea .

construction

The Emma is 41.4 m long, 5.1 m wide and has an empty draft of 0.46 m, loaded 2.9 m with 280 tons of cargo. The hull is made of steel and riveted. The ship has three masts 17, 19 and 21 meters in length and two leeboards , the sail area is around 240 m². There was sailing in the coastal area. On canals or rivers the Emma was either towed or pushed by a pusher boat. Push boats, also known colloquially as pushers , are small motorized boats that are coupled to the stern. The Stosser Hanse came to Emma in 1970 and was built at the Küstrin shipyard (now Poland). The boat is 7.08 meters long, 2.13 meters wide and goes about 85 inches deep. A diesel engine of the type 6 KVD 14.5 SRL from VEB Dieselmotorenwerk Schönebeck with 102 HP is used to drive the pusher .

history

After the end of World War II , Emma remained in the Soviet occupation zone . In 1949 she was registered as a barge in the GDR . After the sailing equipment had been completely dismantled, she was used as a standard barge . It was registered as a privately owned barge in 1957 under the number 3-1534 B. 1990 was Emma the ENI number assigned 5,608,130th

The last owner from Lauterbach on Rügen operated the ship until 1992. Then it was used as a barge and storage boat until 1994 . After that, the Emma should be scrapped. Since the ship was one of the last Haff barges, the owner looked for a museum and was able to sell it to the German Maritime Museum in Bremerhaven for an amount equal to the scrapping premium . There, both Emma and the associated Stosser Hanse were restored to their original condition. Both are now in the Bremerhaven Museum Harbor. In 2005 the Emma was placed under monument protection.
