Detail of the entrance area

The house at Charlottenstrasse 2 in Heilbronn was designed by the architects Hermann Maute and Theodor Moosbrugger as a hotel and restaurant between 1898 and 1899. The building on Charlottenstrasse is an example of the late historicism style around 1900. From the early 1960s, the building housed the Metro Bar , which was part of the Heilbronn red-light district on Rathenauplatz .

description

It is a three-storey building "with a sandstone base, rich figural applications and upper storeys clad with brick". Decorations in the style of the German Renaissance can be seen at the main entrance, on the windows on the ground floor and on the side projections with blind gables . Inside the building, a stairwell has been preserved, which has turned balusters and ornamented windows. The structure of the floor plan was largely retained. The ground floor housed the restaurant, kitchen, etc., and the hotel rooms upstairs.

history

The building was built for the hotelier Heinrich Hoffman in 1898/99 as a hotel and restaurant. In the late 1930s it housed the Zur Fleinerhöhe restaurant . In 1950 the innkeeper Julius Reiner took over the Fleinerhöhe . There was also a branch of Franz Schönbein's grocery store in the building. The upper floors were rented. In 1961 the Metro Bar was located in the building, which was particularly frequented by US soldiers. In front of the building there was also the Bratwurstglöcklein kiosk and Schönbein's grocery store continued for some time. The building was then part of the Heilbronn red light district on Rathenauplatz , which existed from the 1970s until around 2000. In the 1990s, the city of Heilbronn gradually bought the building. Since then, most of the buildings on Rathenauplatz, including the house at Charlottenstrasse 2, have been renovated. After a change of ownership in 2008, six apartments were to be housed in the former hotel;
