Charoli ( Hindi : चारोली ; Marathi : चारोळी , also called Chironji, Hindi: चिरौन्जी ) are seeds of the Chironji tree ( Buchanania lanzan ). The trees are cultivated all over India , with the main growing area in the northwest of the country. When the fruit is ripe, the hard shell is cracked and the inner core is used. This has the consistency of pine nuts .

The seeds are used in Indian cuisine for seasoning, especially for desserts. They are also often part of beer dough variations and sauces . Charoli is a common ingredient in Unani and Ayurveda .
