ChatZilla is a free IRC client for different versions of the Mozilla browser.

It was written in JavaScript and XUL by Robert Ginda and works with any operating system on which the Mozilla browser runs. (Among other things macOS , Linux , Windows , Solaris , IRIX , BeOS , HP-UX , OS / 2 and BSD .) The program supports the common IRC functions, including CTCP, DCC, mIRC colors etc. The appearance of the messages leaves change easily via CSS . ChatZilla is supplied with the Mozilla Suite and SeaMonkey , but is also available as an extension for Mozilla Firefox and other Mozilla-based browsers.

However, since Firefox 57, Chatzilla is no longer available as a browser extension. In contrast, Mozilla Thunderbird now has its own chat component.

ChatZilla can also be operated as a stand-alone version with the XULRunner .

Similar to mIRC , scripts can also be integrated into ChatZilla, which provide additional functions. JavaScript is used as the language here. Since the entire Mozilla API is available, very extensive and powerful scripts are possible. Due to the relatively young age compared to mIRC and the low distribution, there are not quite as many scripts available.
