Chief Economist

Chief economist (seldom also chief economist) is a managerial position in a company or organization.

Chief Economists are responsible for developing and producing economic and financial analyzes. Typical tasks are the preparation of economic analyzes and long-term corporate strategies. You will advise specialist departments and management bodies and coordinate economists in different departments.

Since chief economist is not a protected job title, there is no uniform training. A degree in economics and professional experience in economics departments or in academic work is common.

In the free economy there are chief economists almost exclusively in large companies, primarily in financial service providers , the insurance industry and companies in the IT industry. In the public service the term is also used informally. The head of the department for fundamental questions and international economic policy of the Federal Ministry of Finance is referred to in the press as chief economist. In addition, chief economists are also employed in international organizations, such as B. at the World Bank , the IMF or the ECB .
