The Chelsea Art Museum was a museum for contemporary art in the New York borough of Manhattan , and it is also home to the Jean Miotte Foundation . It opened in 2002 and had to close on December 31, 2011.

The museum's exhibitions sought to reflect contemporary ideas across different cultures and environments, as well as social and geographical perspectives. The Chelsea Art Museum houses works that focus on unexplored dimensions of the 20th and 21st centuries. It also shows works by artists who have so far been shown more in their home countries than in the USA. Around 500 works were shown as a permanent exhibition on the 2800 m² exhibition space of the building erected in 1850.

The Jean Miotte Foundation, located on the third floor, has set itself the task of archiving and preserving the work of Jean Miotte (1926–2016) as well as supporting research on Art Informel .

The museum in close proximity to Chelsea Piers , in the Chelsea neighborhood, is located 556 West 22nd Street in Manhattan, New York. The museum and the associated museum shop at the previous location were closed on December 31, 2011.
