Chen Yuniang

Chen Yuniang ( Chinese  陈玉 娘 , Pinyin Chén Yùniáng , * 1946 in Surakarta , Dutch East Indies , as Tan Giok Nio ) is a former badminton player from the People's Republic of China .

Career

Chen Yuniang was one of the most important Chinese badminton players of the 1970s. During this time there was still a strict separation between the China-related world association WBF and the much larger association IBF, so that Chen Yuniang could only rarely compete with the sizes of the other association. Tan Giok Nio was born in Indonesia. She started badminton at the age of 10 and became Solo City Junior Champion at the age of 13. At 14 she became the sole champion of Java. She left her home country for China even before she had established herself in the international top. For China, she won the Asian Women's Singles Games in 1974 . Between 1964 and 1978 she won eight national Chinese titles. After her active career, she became a trainer and looked after Guan Weizhen , Tang Jiuhong and Huang Hua in the Chinese national team . In 2002 she was inducted into the Badminton Hall of Fame . Today she lives in Hong Kong .
