history

A Chengdu Wing Loong of the Kazakh Air Force .

The Wing Loong was developed by the Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group . The first flight took place in 2008. In 2012 it was presented at the Beijing Airshow . According to the manufacturer, the retail price should be well below the comparable US version MQ-9 Reaper . While a Wing Loong drone costs 1 million dollars to buy, a Reaper costs around thirty times as much. The appearance of the Wing Loong is very similar to that of the US version of General Atomics.

Analysts see the low purchase price as a reason for the strong commitment u. a. this drone in the Libya war by foreign forces.
