Chester Himes Award
The Chester Himes Award was an American literary award for crime fiction (Black Crime Fiction ), which was awarded between 1996 and 2003 by the Friends of Chester Himes (FOCH). The award was intended to highlight the influence and importance of African-American writers in crime fiction. The award took place annually at the Black Mystery Writers Conference in Oakland / California . FOCH was founded by Janette (Jan) L. Faulkner (* 1934), a psychiatrist and social worker, born in Kansas City (Missouri) .
Chester Himes (1909–1984) is still considered one of the most important writers of black crime fiction . Many of his works are available in German translation, e.g. B. Black money for white crooks , The Harlem Money Makers or Blind, with a gun .
