Walter Mosley
Walter Mosley (born January 12, 1952 in Los Angeles , USA ) is an American writer mainly of detective novels.
Life
Mosley grew up as the child of a Polish-Jewish mother (née Slatkin) and an Afro-American father from Louisiana in Watts , a district of Los Angeles with a traditionally high proportion of black and Hispanic residents. After dropping out in Europe and California, he studied at various colleges and finally graduated in political science. In 1981 he moved to New York . In 1986, at the age of 34, he began to write with the help of his then course instructor Edna O'Brien and four years later published the first of a series of detective novels about the black private investigator Easy Rawlins that made him famous. Many other crime novels followed, but also science fiction and youth books as well as non-fiction and in 2010 a first stage play.
Walter Mosley is considered one of the most prominent representatives of Afro-American culture and now lives in New York .
