Chester J. Rutecki (born August 8, 1916 in Chicago , † August 3, 1976 ) was an American boxer .

biography

Chester Rutecki joined the welterweight division at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin . In his first round fight he defeated the Canadian Maurice Camyré . In the last sixteen he lost to Imre Mándi from Hungary. Although the Hungarian hung on the ropes of the ring in the first round and was cautioned four times for fouls, the judges declared him the winner of the fight in the end. Because of this incident, the American boxing team withdrew from the Olympics, but reversed that decision an hour later.

Rutecki turned pro in 1938, but had a short career and ended his career in late 1939. His fights took place exclusively in his hometown.
