Chez Morell

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chez Morell was a Swiss booklet series by Max Morell . It was one of only three Swiss booklet series with a permanent title hero that appeared after the Second World War . In addition to some fantastic novels , detective stories were published.

The series

The main characters in this crime series were detective Charles Vanel and his assistant Otto Hilberg. Only issues 1, 3, 5 and 7 were clearly assigned to the fantastic ( science fiction ), whereby 1, 3 and 5 were a science fiction trilogy . Vanel was a Swiss master detective with an eventful past who bore the autobiographical traits of the author. The cases took place not only in Switzerland, but all over the world. At the end of the series, Charles Vanel gives up his work as a detective.

The figure of the detective Paul Vanel runs through all of the author's crime novels. Unlike other authors of the time, Max Morell tried to defy the rubbish book campaign. So he not only adopted the characters of his books in a booklet series, but also published them under his regular pseudonym.

Max Reck wrote a total of 21 books and 15 notebooks. The magazine novel series Chez Morell was also about his detective. In the series, however, some of the science fiction booklets appeared - a genre that is completely absent from his books.

Volume 01-06 had a drawn cover and interior illustrations. The latter ceased to exist with the change to photo covers from volume 07. The booklets appear in the same format as the Morell books.
