The Cabaret Chez Nous ( French for Bei uns ) was the oldest travesty theater in Germany from 1958 to 2008 , was located in Berlin-Charlottenburg at Marburger Strasse 14 and had a capacity of around 120 people. It became popular throughout the German-speaking area through touring, and the cabaret was a well-known institution on the international scene.

History and artist

Chez Nous was founded in Berlin-Charlottenburg in 1958. In the beginning, artists like Marcel André (→ Detlev ), Cheri Hell, Ricky Reneé and Domino made the house popular. International artists and singers such as Pat & Patachou, Sonne Teal, Ramonita Vargas, Les femmes Mimiques, La Domino, Mylena, Pepa Darena, Rita Jané, Christina, Gloria Fox, Wanda Pierys, Dany Lamée, Joy Peters, Armand, Suleika, Terry LaTour , Blanche, Minouche, Stephanie Caroll, Orél and Angie Stardust entertained audiences for almost 50 years. Many greats of the travesty scene from France, especially from the Parisian nightclubs Le Carrousel and Chez Madame Arthur, worked at Chez Nous , including Capucine, Everest, Yvana and Jacqueline-Charlotte Dufresnoy aka Coccinelle. After an operation at Georges Burou in 1958, the latter was the first transsexual in France to change her male first name to a female one and was married in church. One of the highlights of her career was the revue at the Paris Olympia 'Cherchez la Femme'. Coccinelle went on a European tour with Chez Nous in 1980. Another international star, Amanda Lear , came from the travesty theater Madame Arthur in Paris in 1962 and performed a striptease show at Chez Nous. When her guest appearance was extended, she was given the stage name "Peki de Oslo". Her later career as a successful singer, TV presenter and painter made her an international star.

Since the 1960s, the presence of celebrities from film, radio, television and the stage helped to make the travesty “socially acceptable”. International celebrities turned the door handle into their hands here. The 20th anniversary of the cabaret was honored in 312 newspapers across Europe. At the beginning of 2008 the house in Berlin was closed in the 50th year of its existence.

It was the location of a scene in the film Finale in Berlin (1966).

Employee

For a long time, Yvana, who also worked for Marika Rökk , had a decisive influence on the image of Chez Nous in the choreography and costumes . Afterwards, Le Boy from London worked as a choreographer for 20 years . In the end, the task of choreography and costume design lay with Manel Dalgó. In front of and behind the bar was Daisy St. Denise, a “Urberliner Original”, bartender and artist extraordinaire since 1978 .

Program and tours

The show was metamorphosis, comedy, dance, live singing and parody based on the motto from La Cage aux Folles : “We are what we are, and what we are is an illusion.” The entertaining performances were always on a high artistic level . The artists came from all over Europe and overseas. Chez Nous artists have appeared on TV and in movies, and the place itself has served as a backdrop for some films.

In 1975 cabaret director Thomas Schmieder went on tour for the first time with an additional program; 150 artists from all over the world appeared on stages in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Holland and France. These included such renowned companies as the Deutsches Theater in Munich, De Kleine Komedie in Amsterdam, the Westfalenhalle in Dortmund, the Theater am Aegi in Hanover, the Theater Fauteuil in Basel, the Zuitplein Theater in Rotterdam and the Bernhard Theater in Zurich.
