Chikuwa (竹 輪 , literally "bamboo ring") is a Japanese food made from ingredients such as fish , surimi ,table salt , sugar , starch and protein .

These ingredients are mixed well, wrapped around bamboo or metal rods, and then steamed or boiled. After cooking, the tubes are cut into rings.

Chikuwa is eaten across Japan, but other surimi products such as kamaboko and satsumaage are more common in some places . In Tottori Prefecture , the consumption per household for the past 30 years current statistics is highest.
