The Chimaera Flats are a wide, sandy, structureless plain on Candlemas Island in the South Sandwich Islands archipelago . They are located between the Medusa Pool and the Gorgon Pool .

The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the plain in 1971 after the Chimera , the fire-eating monster from Greek mythology .
