Chimba culture

The Chimba culture was a pre-Columbian culture of the Formative Period in the Sierra Ecuador in the province of Imbabura 55 km northeast of Quito .

According to the radiocarbon method, it existed between 900 and 200 BC. And was first explored in the early 1970s. Like the neighboring Cotocollao culture, the Chimba culture was based on agriculture with corn, potatoes, quinoa and beans. Cotton and probably coca bushes were also grown. In contrast to the Cotocollao culture, Chimba had lively trade relations with other groups in the Sierra and on the Pacific coast.
