List of rose varieties

The rose variety 'New Year' (syn. 'Arcadian' (in Great Britain ), 'MACnewye') is an orange to golden yellow colored floribunda rose , which was introduced by Samuel Darragh McGredy IV in New Zealand in 1982 . The rose was bred from a cross of the orange floribunda rose 'Mary Sumner' and a seedling that was grown from the yellow- orange flamed hybrid tea 'Yellow Pages' and the yellow hybrid tea 'Kabuki'.

education

The tall, upright Rose New Year forms a small, compact shrub. The rose plant is about 75 to 130 cm high and 60 cm wide. The bright orange to golden yellow flowers made up of 20 to 25 curved petals and large, glossy, dark green leaves are characterized by a light, fruity scent , which are arranged individually, sometimes in tufts . In the later flowering stage, the colors fade to a delicate pink starting from the flower edges. Due to the large, double to densely filled flowers towering in the middle, the roses are drawn as grandiflora in the Anglophone-speaking area .

The 'New Year' thrives in a sunny location on deep soil without waterlogging . The remontant rose is only moderately hardy ( USDA climate zone 6b and warmer) and resistant to the known rose diseases . In hot weather it tends to bloom and fade quickly. The rose is suitable for planting flower beds, cottage gardens and planters. The 'New Year' rose is also used in floristry as a cut flower . In 1995 the climbing sport of the rose with 6 to 14 petals was discovered by Joe Burks.

In 1987, the 'New Year' rose was awarded the All-American Rose Selection rating alongside the 'Bonica' and 'Sher Bloss' rose varieties .
