China Classification Society

The China Classification Society ( Chinese : 中國 船級社, abbreviated: CCS, German: China Classification Society ), based in Shanghai, is a global classification society .

The company has 58 branches worldwide and at the end of 2008 was authorized by 28 countries to classify ships under their flag. At the end of 2009, 2282 ships with a gross volume of 34.45 million GRT were classified by the CCS.

The company was founded in China in 1956 and has been working in the field of ship classification ever since. In the years of its existence, the CCS expanded its activities from the examination related exclusively to ships to related areas such as damage analysis, classification of offshore structures and the area of ​​maritime research. The CCS was accepted as a full member of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) in May 1988 and works with an ISO 9001- compliant quality management system.

The highest rating of the CCS is part of the classification requirements of the Institute of London Underwriters (ILU). Furthermore, the CCS is an extraordinary member of the International Association of Dry Cargo Shipowners (INTERCARGO) and the International Association of Independent Tanker Owners (INTERTANKO).
