China's first nuclear weapons research station
China's first research station for nuclear weapons ( Chinese 第一个核武器研制基地旧址 , Pinyin Dì-yī gè héwǔqì Yanzhi Jidi jiùzhǐ ) from the 1950s to the 1990s in a circle Haiyan of the Autonomous District Haibei Tibetan northeast of the northwestern China province of Qinghai was China's first plant for research and development as well as the production of nuclear weapons . The center was established in 1958. China's first atomic and hydrogen bombs were developed here.
The site known as the Ninth Academy , Factory No. 221 , Atomic City , etc. is located in the Jinyintan Steppe ( Chinese chines银滩 草原 , Pinyin Jīnyíntān cǎoyuán ) between the town of Xihai and Lake Qinghai , the secret military base had an area of over 1000 km². Today parts of it have been designed into a museum.
The site has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (5-512) since 2001 .
meaning
The first Chinese nuclear weapon test called "596", for which essential preparatory work took place here, was carried out on October 16, 1964 in the Uyghur Autonomous Region of Xinjiang at the Lop Nor nuclear weapon test site.
