Sino-Pakistani relations

The Sino-Pakistani relations describe the bilateral relations between Pakistan and the People's Republic of China . Pakistan has an embassy in Beijing . For its part, China has an embassy in Islamabad . Diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China were established in 1950. Pakistan was one of the first countries in the world to recognize China and Taiwan . Both countries emphasize a good relationship.

Pakistan and China have a long and strong relationship. The long relationship between the two countries is mutually beneficial. Both countries pursue similar strategies and this is the basis for the good relations between Pakistan and China. Pakistan has been the People's Republic of China since the Indo-Chinese border war in 1962 on all political issues such as the political status of Taiwan, Xinjiang and Tibet and human rights. China has recognized Pakistan's support on many issues. This includes Richard Nixon's visit to China in 1972 Pakistan has worked with China economically and militarily. Pakistan also serves as a link between China and the Muslim world. China supports Pakistan with national problems. The Pakistani army is dependent on Chinese armaments. China supplies Pakistan with nuclear equipment.

Diplomatic relations

Diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China began on May 31, 1951. Pakistan hoped that China would counterbalance the influence of India. India recognized China in 1950 and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru also hoped to strengthen ties with China. The Pakistani Prime Minister, Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, and his Chinese counterpart, Zhou Enlai , signed a friendship agreement designed to further develop relations. Pakistan and China allied during the China-India border war in 1962 to curb the influence of India and the Soviet Union . Pakistan continues to serve China as a link to the western world. An informal alliance has developed into a good friendship from which both sides benefit in military, economic and diplomatic terms. There was a lively exchange between Pakistan and China: Chinese Prime Minister Zhou Enlai received a warm welcome on all of his state visits to Pakistan. A street in Pakistan was named after Zhou Enlai. The Pakistani ambassador to China ran to the Chinese Foreign Ministry without an appointment to express his grief when Enlai died. Despite his illness, Mao Zedong received Zulfikar Ali Bhutto as his last state guest in 1976.
