Chinese Islamic Institute

The Chinese Islamic Institute ( Chinese  中国 伊斯兰教 经 学院 , Pinyin Zhongguo Yisilanjiao jingxueyuan , English China Islamic Institute ) was founded on November 21, 1955 in Beijing . According to its own statements, it aims to promote akhunde ( imams ) and mullahs who are both patriotic and believers of Islam.

The students at the institute are primarily “progress-oriented” Muslim youth, whose knowledge of Islam acquired in the mosques is being expanded. Graduates should be able to read Arabic scripts and produce simple oral and written translations. The main courses offered at the institute are: Theology, Holy Quran (including Quran recitation and commentary), Hadith , Islamic Law and Arabic Literature . Chinese (mainly for Uighur classes), history, geography and politics are also taught.

Islamic courses take up approx. 70% of the teaching volume, cultural courses approx. 30%.
