Chinstrap Island is an island in the Balleny Islands group of East Antarctica . It is heavily glaciated, volcanic origin and is located approximately 250 km north-northeast of the at the Oates Coast of Victoria Land located Cape Kinsey .
The naming of the island has been recognized by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names since 2015 . It is named after probably the chinstrap ( English Chinstrap penguin ), whose existence was limited to the Balleny Islands in the 1980s to this island.
