Chiton olivaceus , is a species of the beetle snail . In the literature it is also known as the colorful beetle snail or the green beetle snail .
features
Chiton olivaceus grows up to 4 cm. As with all beetle snails, the shell consists of 8 plates. The plates of this type have a distinct longitudinal keel on the upper side. The middle and side panels have strong ribs. The color is yellow-brown to olive-green, sometimes black, red, orange or yellow. The longitudinal and transverse pattern is variable. Often the plates II and VII are colored differently from the others. The belt has light and dark stripes.
Occurrence
The distribution area includes the Mediterranean . The species can be observed regularly and frequently in rock niches, under stones, empty shells from the intertidal zone to a depth of 40 m.
