Chloroalkanes

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chloromethane , the simplest representative of the chloroalkanes

The chloroalkanes form a group of halogenated alkanes in which one or more hydrogen atoms are replaced by chlorine atoms . The basic alkane structure can be either straight or branched. If all hydrogen atoms are completely replaced by chlorine atoms, the perchlorinated compounds are obtained.

The chloroalkanes can also be divided into primary , secondary and tertiary chloroalkanes.
