Chodkiewicz Palace

The Chodkiewicz Palace (Polish: Pałacyk Chodkiewiczów ), also known as the Brzeziński Palace after its builder , is located on 10 Kościelna Street in Warsaw . It is not to be confused with the larger Chodkiewicz Palace at 14 Miodowa Street (also in Warsaw). The classicist palace is located in the so-called New Town in Warsaw's inner city district . The former Mokrowski Palace (today the seat of the Hotel “Le Regina” ) is adjacent to the west.

The palace was probably built in 1776 to a design by Simon Gottlieb Zug for Teofil Dunin-Brzeziński. In 1784 it was bought by a member of the Chodkiewicz family , from whom it was rented. In 1792 the Vizebsk voivode Michał Kossakowski lived here . In the 19th century, doctors, civil servants and officers rented the elegant building. It was rebuilt from 1817 to 1832. It fell victim to a fire during the Warsaw Uprising in 1944; Parts of the masonry have been preserved.

The two-story palace was rebuilt in the 1950s by the architect Czesław Bogusz using classicist style elements. The building stands on a rectangular floor plan. On the ground floor there is a gate entrance in a discreet central projection , which is crowned by a triangular gable .
