Simon Gottlieb Zug

Simon Gottlieb Zug (born February 20, 1733 in Merseburg , † August 11, 1807 in Warsaw , Polish Szymon Bogumił Zug ), was a Polish architect and garden designer of Saxon origin in the second half of the 18th century.

Life

Zug is one of the most important architects of Polish classicism . He came from the Wettin town of Merseburg and at the beginning of his career worked for the building department of the Electoral Saxon Court in Dresden from 1752 . When August III. Moved to Warsaw during the Seven Years' War , Zug followed him in 1756 and stayed in the Polish capital even after the end of the war. In 1768 he was ennobled there.

One of his most famous works is the romantic Arkadia Garden near Nieborów , which was laid out on the order of Prince Michael Radziwiłł between 1778 and 1798 based on the model of English landscape gardens.
