The name Firlej is the name of a Polish noble family.

The Firlej family is first mentioned in 1317. In Poland she settled in the Greater Poland area . The name Firlej is derived from the German firlejer . Over time, the family has connected with many other Polish noble families, for example with the Potockis , Ossolinskis or the Opaliński .

Through numerous offices such as hetman , voivode or castellan , the Firlejs was able to rise to one of the most powerful magnate families of the 17th century in Poland. The family also built numerous hospitals and established foundations.
