The Foundation for German-Polish Cooperation (SdpZ; Polish Fundacja Współpracy Polsko-Niemieckiej ) is an institution that has been mutually operated by Germans and Poles for more than twenty years and provides the funds for projects that enable German and Polish organizers to undertake projects to realize together.

In 1991, the Foundation for German-Polish cooperation by the governments of both countries was an intergovernmental agreement launched. The foundation is based in Warsaw , all matters are decided equally by the German and Polish bodies.

The establishment is the result of a decision to convert the Jumbo Loan from the 1970s. This was to ensure that its repayment would not hinder the development of the market economy and democracy in Poland after 1989. Part of the loan was waived, the other part was repaid in Polish currency in the form of the SdpZ fund, which was set up for joint non-commercial projects serving German-Polish understanding.

Until 2001 the foundation was able to support the material basis for the dialogue between the citizens of both countries with high financial commitment: meeting places were built, monuments of the common cultural heritage were saved from destruction and the infrastructure for the development of the relations improved. The loan repayment was completed in 2002 and the foundation is now investing its annual investment income in projects that encourage people from Germany and Poland to meet and work together.

The focus is on projects based on partnership at the municipal level and scientific cooperation. All state universities in Poland are regular beneficiaries of the Foundation for German-Polish Cooperation. In addition, all aspects of the reporting by the mass media and cultural cooperation issues of paramount importance for the foundation's work. By investing in over 800 projects annually, the foundation helps to continuously consolidate the bilateral cooperation between the two countries and to strengthen the long-term awareness that the German-Polish dialogue is a constitutive element for the preservation and maintenance of the common cultural heritage in Europe represents.
