Mauro Cateb: five-row pearl necklace ( choker ) with medallion, gold, pearls, diamonds, early 21st century, Brazil.

The choker ( English to choke = to choke) is a tight-fitting necklace that appeared in the 15th century and has a length of about 40 cm.

In earlier times the piece of jewelry consisted of a single-row chain of pearls or balls of the same size, often with a large gemstone.

In today's fashion trends you can also find the choker as a stretchable collar made of mesh or braided stretchable materials in different colors.
