Chondrosis

As chondrosis to degenerative changes, called the cartilage so wear (wear). In principle, these can be found in every joint, but the term is mainly used for disc changes caused by wear .

From the third decade of life, the water content of the nucleus pulposus also decreases under physiological (no disease value) conditions.

In conventional X-ray diagnostics, this can be recognized by a decrease in the height of the intervertebral spaces. The result is a change in the direction of pull of the fiber ring of the intervertebral disc , which leads to ossification of the vertebral body ( spondylosis ). If bony changes have already occurred, one speaks of osteochondrosis intervertebralis or, in the further course, if the intervertebral joints also show bony extensions, of spondylarthrosis deformans .
