The Khovansky Foundation (Khovansky Fund) is the oldest Russian foundation for honoring and supporting teachers. It is financed by donations from citizens and associations.

motto

The motto is a quote from A. Chowanski : “The wealth of knowledge is priceless. Those who donate it do not lose anything. The donation is a win here too - as the level of public education increases, so do those who donate it. "

history

The foundation was established in Voronezh after Khovanski's death in 1899 and announced an annual award for the best teacher. In 1917 it stopped its activities and the publication of its journal Filologitscheskije Sapiski . The Chowanski Fund was reconstituted on the occasion of the 110th anniversary on November 4, 2009, again with the aim of honoring and supporting teachers and publishers.

The foundation conducts research in the areas of comparative linguistics , comparative mythology , local history , ethnology , social psychology , psycholinguistics and semiotics .

Chovanski figure
Chovanski Medal

To commemorate Chovanski's 200th birthday, the foundation introduced a new medal to honor German teachers and a figure to honor teaching and creative teams.

The figure and its design were created by the Voronezh sculptor Maxim Dikunov in two versions: for teachers and editors. The figure was named «Alexy».

The "Living Word" medal is awarded to teachers and educators.

The bronze, silver-plated or gold-plated medal with a diameter of 32 mm shows the bust of Khovanski on its obverse. The bust is framed by laurel branches, with the dates below and the inscription: AA Хованский above . The reverse of the medal shows a book from which the sun's rays shine, and the inscription below: ЖИВОЕ СЛОВО .
