Chris Claremont (born November 30, 1950 in London , Great Britain ) is an American writer of superhero comics . Mostly Claremont writes for Marvel Comics , especially for the X-Men , he is considered the defining writer who oversaw the main series Uncanny X-Men for 16 years (from 1976 to 1991). Under Claremont, the X-Men title, threatened to be discontinued, became one of the most successful American comic series, which gave birth to various spin-off series.

In particular, Claremont's collaboration with cartoonist John Byrne on Uncanny X-Men is one of the highlights of American superhero comics. Claremont was also involved in the creation of many popular Marvel characters. At the end of the 1980s, Claremont fell out with the then Marvel management and finally left the publisher in 1991, after he had created the first issues of the X-Men series with Jim Lee, which are still among the best-selling US comics of all time. After little successful work for DC Comics and Dark Horse , Claremont returned to Marvel in 1998, where he wrote the series Uncanny X-Men and New Excalibur, among other things.

In addition to comics, Claremont also wrote novels, including the shadow trilogy (shadow moon, shadow twilight and shadow sun) together with George Lucas . In this trilogy, the story of Elora Danan from the film Willow is told .
