Chris Oyakhilome
Chris Oyakhilome (also called "Pastor Chris" ) is a New Pentecostal Nigerian preacher and alleged spiritual healer . The Christ Embassy church he founded has followers worldwide.
After his marriage he performed in a duo with his wife Anita, who also calls herself "Pastor Anita". Its theological character is strongly oriented towards the Charismatic Movement and the Neupfingstlerische movement with a strong focus on healing services. His theology was influenced by the Aladura churches in West Africa, some of which have integrated and reinterpreted pre-Christian African practices and ideas in Christianity. This was followed by the US-based charismatic movement from the 1960s onwards, which has a special emphasis on Christian charisms such as prophecy and speaking in tongues . In the early stages of his own free church , he was friends with the evangelist TB Joshua . In 2003 "Pastor Chris" founded the first 24-hour Christian TV network from Africa for a worldwide church. The network combines the satellite channels “LoveWorld TV” for the UK, “LoveWorld SAT” for South Africa and “LoveWorld PLUS” for Nigeria.
In 2002 Oyakhilome was accused by leaders of the Nigerian Pentecostal Movement of collaborating with TB Joshua . TB Joshua was accused by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria of using occult practices and deceiving Christians out of greed.
As one of the few preachers in Nigeria, Oyakhilome takes the view that masturbation is not a sin against God because it only has to do with one's own body and only the addiction to it is problematic.
Spirit healings
"Pastor Chris" stands in the tradition of the African character of the Pentecostal movement . On their website, Christ Embassy refers to alleged miracle healings . AIDS sufferers assert that the Holy Spirit appeared to them and cured them.
Role model function
The appearance and work of "Pastor Chris" were a role model for other preachers and Free Church leaders.
