The Christ Church Cathedral is the Anglican cathedral in the Canadian city of Vancouver and is one of two cathedrals in the New Westminster Diocese of the Anglican Church of Canada . It is located on West Georgia Street on property acquired by Canadian Pacific Railway , adjacent to the Vancouver Hotel .
history
The foundation stone was laid on July 28, 1894, and the inauguration took place on February 17, 1895. The building, built in neo-Gothic style, replaced a wooden church built in 1889. In 1929 the New Westminster Bishopric was moved here. In 1976 the city of Vancouver and the province of British Columbia listed the cathedral as a historical monument .
