Christ Church Parish Church

The Christ Church Parish Church is a church built in 1935 in Oistins , Christ Church Parish , Barbados . It belongs to the Diocese of Barbados of the Anglican Church in the Province of the West Indies . It is the fifth church at this point.

Building history

The first church was built near Dover Beach in 1629, but was destroyed by flooding in 1669. The second church, built further inland, was destroyed in a hurricane in 1780. It was rebuilt a third time in 1786, but destroyed again in another hurricane in 1831. The fourth church in the same place burned down during construction in 1935, but its smoke-blackened walls have been preserved and form part of today's church building.

Myths and legends

The church is known for the Chase Crypt , in which supposedly supernatural incidents took place from 1807 to 1820.
